Sorare Discovery

It was on Twitter in football chat discussions 6 months before I joined in May 2020. At this time, there were not as many auctions every day, I saw the potential, came up and picked up Rookies. Great, I can put together a team of 5 that I know and win rewards. After I won some free cards and entered them into the Rookie tournaments. I love to watch football and scout new players so the Sorare project sounded like a great one.

I have been involved in crypto previously and Sorare is taking the best of fantasy football & blockchain. Immediately, I invested in my passion for scouting players because I knew I could have a great ROI. When I first met crypto & blockchain in 2017, I was ultimately aware of this space and I saw the opportunities of Ethereum before Sorare. When you look into details, it makes sense for me to get involved and to transfer ETH to buy players. This is a platform that uses a cryptocurrency in their economics so in the game. You can see a lot of crypto games out there, sometimes, they are crazy. If I see something I do not believe in, I do not invest. Sorare looked like a totally unique proposition: the ability to move the items out of the platform. The speculation is present but the utility of the cards takes the lead and I decided to make the most of this platform.

Budget Management

I was not thinking about spending 1,000£ straight away. The first purchases were at 3 or 4£ (maximum £30) and these were roughly the prices for European players already well-known in Ligue 1 or Bundesliga and then I looked a lot at other teams and leagues. I did not think of buying Super Rare or Unique cards at the beginning. I was never committed to a certain amount and added money when I thought that there were great opportunities.

Leagues Not Covered

I think we all know the Sorare Team Roadmap that they want to cover the top 20 leagues. I am especially looking for Austria & Leipzig. If I see a player going to the Championship, I am also attentively looking at him.

Players In A League Non-Covered

It depends but if I think some players are leaving for a League that I think will be covered in the future, then yes, it can buy them. You have to make a choice and buying is always a question of economic opportunities. I prefer players who are on loan or on the reserve team. I want to buy players at a low price and utilize them in the future.

New Licenses

I am 100% optimistic. There is everything onboard the top 20 leagues and I think that is going to continue and it looks like Sorare can scale enough to support a significant demand. The cards were sold at 5£ a few months ago and now are worth more than 100£. If more Managers are playing the Rookie League, there is a bigger demand and it is logical to organically have some new clubs & leagues coming with their fans. In my head, the current supply is probably not enough. We will soon see a new scarcity. With 13,000 managers on the platform with one or more cards and if you take a player during its career, there will only be 2,000 rare cards and its price will be high as everyone for example would love to have a rare card of Messi. With all the options with the leagues, clubs & national teams, the demand will continue to grow.

Vision

It is hard to answer because the Sorare platform is growing week after week pretty quickly and we will see in 2 years so many teams and maybe 100k users. The 3rd party programs are also becoming more and more developed and I want to play a SO11 tournament.

Strategy Evolution

My strategy is pretty simple. I consider that Sorare is providing scarce assets and that these assets are going to be worth more in the future than now. I managed to pick up Rares & Super Rares from 19 to 21 years old at the best prices. As the game progresses, we see that few European clubs are coming and that changes the game dynamics and how competitive the game is. Each week I need to adapt as the platform grows. One day, I predict a market that is more stable but for the moment you need to watch carefully the indicators as well as build your gallery for the next 2 or 3 years.

The value of Sorare cards is looking to decrease as fast as the players encounter a decline in their careers. I find it very hard to sell players now and I found myself recently buying players who I have recently sold. I think that a player who is 17 years old has the potential to play until 35. So, this player can potentially be used for 18 years. That combined with the characteristic of Football Index players who have massively joined Sorare, the value of the young players is about to breakthrough, it makes sense for me to buy and enjoy the future returns.
