SorarePodcast #62 - Jay Hall, What Makes A Good Footy Game
This week, Hibee & YNWA were delighted to be joined by Jay Hall to discuss;
- His background
- Football Manager, Football Index, Footstock, Footium and Sorare
- Huge NFT Giveaway
- Footium Clubs
- 10 Exclusive Players
- And much more
Hibee: I wanted you to come because you have been involved in +10 footy games.
YNWA: We can probably spend our time and money on multiple football games, but the thing is that you have preferences and get influenced. Today, you got to make sure that you are always approaching something with realistic expectations. The process is gonna take time.
Some people are thinking that they will play a complex game, but for me, it does not look like that. Of course, Football Manager is so complex and takes so much time. In some respects, it would be nice to have less complex games.
YNWA: The common denominator between all these games is football. Your first experience is always gonna influence future decisions. Because there are so many options there, we can probably play and spend our money on 5 to 8 games but the thing is that you have a preference for one. I think that you need to approach these games with realistic expectations, but this process is gonna take time.
Moreover, I think that future games will be influenced by people like us. If for example, you align your 4-3-3 and I align my 4-4-2, there is nothing we can do to influence the results after having pressed "play". In the future, we could influence and make substitutions during live games for example. I am sure they're gonna be a way to implement these kinds of features in Footium, and some will work when others won’t.
Hibee: Football Manager has lost me a little bit, maybe because I am older.
YNWA: I think that there are people that have identified areas of improvement in all of the footy games. When you are moving to Metamerse and crypto it is hard for people to understand that you are not gonna play polished and finished games.
I hope this is gonna happen.
Hibee: With Footium, you have a small group of managers that are working to understand how we can create a new game.
I did not get into Sorare like you guys. I joined pretty close to the start and left it for a while and then ETH went up so I sold some players. I tried to get a few tournaments won, but I do not take it seriously and sometimes forget to add line-ups. With Football Index I spent some weekends only playing this game and not seeing friends. Now, that has changed.
Hibee: Football Index is different because the prices are moving so much in an intraday framework. What is different with Sorare is that I do not have to worry too much about the prices because I bought some youngsters and am confident about their futures. It can take a lot of time, but you need to think about your game-time and life balance.
Yeah definitely.
YNWA: It is hard to be the 1st of the 1st as well as to be successful. With that being said, you have to be an optimist as long as you realize that there are plenty of reasons why you might not be able to succeed. How many people may have spent ETH on injured players and not getting themselves on thresholds? You may not "yield" your return, and that is why I am happy to share games in the early stages, and I hope that we will do well with all of them. We have also to enjoy, which is super important because the money side of it is not the finality.
Hibee: I think that changes are coming as Sorare has onboarded many new users during the last months. A progress bar will help to know where users want to go.
YNWA: I am starting to use alarms more effectively. I was in the transfer market on 24/24 & 7/7. Today I am on Sorare Tuesday and Friday mornings and have the rest of the day for myself. Personally, I am at a level where I am happy with my gallery and able to spend time on something else, and if that is Footium, that is fantastic.
Hibee: We play many of these games, and I think that is one of the benefits of being part of this ecosystem. Everyone is different, and the opportunities are here to get found. For the more experienced managers on Sorare, we are less on the Transfer Market because there is no need anymore. That was the most enjoyable part of trying to get deals.
YNWA: In the early days, only a few hundred people were playing the game, and for me, there were clear opportunities for buying and selling. That's why I spent so much time on the Transfer Market. The new managers have not spent this time yet and will get deep enough soon to feel what we felt some months ago. As long as there are always new injections of enthusiasm and the cards are released at the right speed, it's much more challenging to compete in the Transfer Market.
Hibee: There are no shortages of buyers on Sorare, and that is super positive.
