SorarePodcast #57 - SorareMega, Youngy, Legends, DNPs & New Features!
Welcome to episode 57 of the Sorare Global Podcast. This week, Hibee & YNWA was delighted to be joined by Math, founder of SorareMega & Youngy99, to discuss;
- Their approaches to Sorare
- Legend Cards
- GW 206, DNP's, and Euro Rotation
- What's next for SorareMega
Background & Plans
Youngy99: I went into Belgium League to play challenger because the Champion was too expensive when I began. After, I looked after Asians even if, as for Belgium, I did not have any idea about these football regions. I finished top 10 in Asia and now I am building my MLS team. I recently hit 2 x 400 scores on the same day.
Hibee: I think that we will see upper scores in the future.
I think that if you get 370, then you will get great rewards thanks to the dynamic reward system. Sometimes, you need a bit of luck, of course, but there is also a part of skills. I love fantasy football because you do not look only for your today’s players' scores but you look for potential injuries and progress. It is more than a game; it is a club.
YNWA: For every new thousand of players, there are thousands of new views to play the game. The market will decide. I believe that the players in the market shouldn’t be determined by the previous sales price. As time goes on and the supply rules are running, Limited cards can bring fantastic results so we need to think carefully to benefit from potential new scorings systems.
I am always looking for Champions players.
Mat': At the beginning, I was doubtful about Sorare, but when I started to get more in-depth into the game, I fell addicted. As Nicolas, the CEO of Sorare, said: we are just grasping the edge of what NFTs can bring between digital and real life.
YNWA: How did SorareMega occur?
We came up with this idea because we think the core of NFTs is the collectible aspect, and thanks to that, everybody can use them differently. As a user, I love SO5, but I think that there is so much more to do. We were thinking to make ruffles, but we quickly understood that we needed licenses and regulations so we forgave this idea. We started this adventure in our spare time.
YNWA: You introduced SO3, SO5, SO8, and SO11 & the dice game and you are now working on levels in order to engage more of the users.
We have the main direction, and the introduction of the experience system will allow progress at different levels. These levels will unlock MegaCoins and chests and we will continue to develop this in the coming weeks.
YNWA: No plan for Mega14, Mega20? (joke). Are you looking to explore substitutes? What about multiple-game weeks? As we do not have yet a long-term leaderboard, is there something you explore?
No :) Substitutes are something that we are definitely exploring, and we will push side games further thanks to the community's feedback. Substitutes may for example be used with MegaCoins, nothing is defined yet. The mechanics of players that you will use for multiple game weeks is exciting. We want to focus first on a format where you will be able to play as a team. Maybe we should also consider selling some coffee because we do not sleep a lot ;)
It is hard to manage the balance between the different scarcity because we need to be cautious. We did not have to decide on rules concerning that point at the moment.
Legends
YNWA: Another interesting point is Legend cards. We can imagine increasing the utility of these cards thanks to SorareMega.
Yes, we had the same idea for coaches as well.
Youngy99: I love the Legend cards like Platini, for example. I am not spending a considerable amount of money, so I am not willing to buy this kind of player even with the powerful aspects they have. As they can be used on Sorare only for special tournaments, they do not have at the moment a massive impact on the game, and that is one reason why I am not looking to buy Legends today.
YNWA: In twelve months, when we will see 500k users on the platform, personally, I think that people will look back and will want to possess Legends. I remember the time when it was the first edition of players that nobody was considering, it has changed today. The version matters to me.
Definitely, a valid point because you do not always look for today only but also for the future.
Hibee: In the future, I think that users will mainly look for Limited cards.
Mat’: I would love to have a Zidane card and Jean-Pierre Papin, as I am French.
Youngy99: Ronaldinho is the leading player I am looking for in the 50 Legends as I grew up watching him.
GW 206, DNP's & Euro rotation
There is no point in me catching up on every player's scores, even if I love to look after football worldwide all weekend. I think it is more efficient to look after that on Monday morning and decide once or twice a week.
Mat’: I do not often build lineups in the weekly division. With my current cards, I cannot find lineups of more than three teams. I possess mainly Rare cards.
Hibee: Rotations, after the European game weeks, give me a headache. But that is part of the fun as it is part of football, isn't it?
Youngy99: I know that there are managers better in terms of organization than I am. The more you can anticipate, the better. 2-3 weeks ahead is already good practice. Having a fixed strategy for a player is not easy, and that's fine. You do not need to Google every fixture. The price of every player changes every week, and that is logical because the demand fluctuates depending on the calendar & the fixtures.
Hibee: There is plenty of possibilities to use your players and scout in the game. Some people will take advantage of people who want to get in a particular game week.
I would like to see the English team on the platform as a National Team. I do love English football, and the day it will come, Chelsea rookie cards, for example, I will be excited.
Hibee: I would love to see the Premier League & the Championship.
Another great point about Sorare is that even if you get DNPs during a game week, there is soon the next one.
Hibee: Yes, that's true; as soon as you get your rewards, you are looking for the next game week.
The million dollars question: what's coming next for SorareMega?
Mat’: Around the corner, I can give you some insights. It is, by the way, a perfect time because if you would have asked me this question some months ago, I would not have been able to answer.
We are building a marketplace for the community: jerseys, shoes, and other cool stuff you can buy with MegaCoins. In-game assets to boost players are expected to come out. At some point, offering some NFTs on the marketplace is also a possibility to propose limited and scarce items.
We do not want to over-commit, but if we can propose to buy actual Sorare cards against MegaCoins, this is a kind of feature we would love to propose in our shop.
YNWA: What about your relationship with Sorare? Have you decided to work alone or not?
We are working alone but are grateful because Sorare is bringing a lot of advice and rewards. It is a journey we are developing at two, and there is no developer from Sorare on the team.
Youngy99: It is great to have more utility for my cards, thanks Mat'.
